Maybelline Volum’Express Mascara Review

I have the hardest time when it comes to loving mascara that isn’t Cover Girl. I use the Cover Girl clump crusher in very black, waterproof and I have yet to find something better! It is the perfect waterproof formula, the perfect color, and the perfect wand.

I decided to try the Maybelline Volum’Express mascara with the “revolutionary gel-mousse formula” and “flexor-brush”.

mascara

As usual, I have wasted my money trying something that will never compete with my life love, Cover Girl. The actual waterproof formula seems to be pretty good, but if you wear a lot of mascara like I do, the brush on this is the hardest thing to use for someone who wears more than 1 coat of mascara 😦 Because of the flexor-brush, you can’t use any pressure to pack on the layers, so it is very hard to coat your eyelashes. I was pretty bummed out because I just want to find something else that I love!

So, instead of this being a total waste, I will just use my Cover Girl wand in the Maybelline bottle.

Wavy hair without the perm

When it comes to hair, every girl wants what she can’t have. If our hair is straight, we want it curly or wavy. If our hair is curly, we want it straight. Never happy, us girls! Well, my hair is naturally wavy…but not a cute, leave it wet and let it air dry, kind of wavy. It is more of a “I look like I just rolled out of bed” sort of wavy.

I recently had a friend ask me how to get wavy hair, so I sent her these pictures. I realize they aren’t the best quality, but I think they get the point across.

When I worked at the salon, we had a class on how to use these butterfly clips. They taught us how to get your hair wavy using only these clips, which is so amazing to me and was really one of me “How did I not think of this?!” moments.

I usually do this on dry hair but it does work better if your hair is just barely damp. My hair is so flat, so if I totally dry it, and use a volumizing powder after round brushing the top, I can get a bit of volume to begin with. Depending on how long your hair is, you will need at least 6 butterfly clips, or else you can just do a few at a time, it just takes longer.

I put them in like the pictures shown above, then use my blow dryer on them for about 10 seconds on high heat. Move the clips down the hair shaft so it will be wavy all the way down. Once you take the heat off, spray with a bit of light hairspray and un-clip them. Having hair as short as I do, I usually only need 6 for my whole head, obviously longer hair will take more clips.

I hope I have explained myself well enough! If you have any questions, let me know!! Good luck 🙂

The Beauty Blender

beauty blender

This pink, little sponge is the best thing I have ever used on my face! It starts off fairly small, but once you put it under water it swells to twice its size. Allow it to soak up as much of the water as it can while squeezing it. Once it is fully wet, squeeze out the excess water and dry it off with a towel (just so it isn’t soaking). This amazing little gem blends better than your fingers will. The pointed end works well around your eyes to get into any corners. This will blend foundation, concealer, cream blushes, beauty balms, anything you put on your face! It is also great for people with dry skin when using it wet because the moisture helps keep your skin hydrated while applying foundation and concealer. If you don’t own one, now is the time to add this to your list!

Tarte Cheek Stain

tarte blog

My amazing friend Kelly, who is a makeup artist as well, told me to get these awhile back. I never ended up getting them because I was too afraid of a cheek stain. In my mind, I envisioned putting it on my cheek and it coming out as if I just used a tube of lipstick (which, if you can’t envision, just know, in my mind, it wasn’t pretty).

Well, low and behold, these are just as amazing as she said they were and I will tell you why. First off, they smell good….lol that might not matter to you, but I have a sensitive nose and if a makeup has a weird smell, I wouldn’t be able to keep it on my face all day. Second, the color has great pigment but the finish is sheer which makes this great for a couple reasons: you want a cheek color to stay on all day and not move around or come off when you itch your cheek, and on most days, you don’t want an intense cheek. These look natural and blend very easily.

The best thing about a cheek stain is you can use the stain first and a blush second. Start by putting the stain on the apples of your cheeks, blending up toward your temples. You can use your fingers, a brush, or a beauty blender. Then take a little bit of your blush over top of the stain and BAM, your blush looks amazing and will last all day 🙂

Simple Little Things. Handmade Baby Items

profile pic 2

The day has finally come…I am now at the age where everyone is having kids. A lot of my friends are getting pregnant and I couldn’t be happier for them! What an exciting time in their lives, and mine, because I get to visit babies and hand them back when they start to cry LOL….With all of the pregnancies, there come the baby showers. When I found out 2 of my friends’ were having girls, I wanted to make a gift so I started making headbands, which has now turned into this weird obsession and I can’t stop making them!

I find myself to be a pretty creative person and this was becoming a new hobby, so I decided to start selling the headbands I was making. My friend Jessica (who was one of the friends having a baby girl) started making handmade bibs and together we came up with Simple Little Things, a Facebook page, to promote our handmade products. Right now, we have bibs, headbands, and tiebacks—if you aren’t familiar with what a tieback is, it is a headband that ties on, they are used a lot for getting pictures taken but I personally like wearing tiebacks because they don’t hurt my head—anyway, we will be adding other items on our page as well.

We take custom orders-a general idea of a pattern you may want, colors, sizes, etc. The headbands and tiebacks can also be made for adults 🙂 We are very excited about our new venture and hope you will love our handmade items as much as we love making them! Check out our page and let us know what you think! Share with your friends as well 🙂

You will find high quality, hand crafted accessories and essentials for your precious little ones. We hope that you enjoy our unique selection including headbands, bibs, burp cloths & car seat canopies. Check back often for new patterns and designs!

Simple Little Things items make the perfect gift!

Once you have found the item you want to purchase, please comment “WANT” underneath the items’ picture along with a private message to us regarding how you would like to pay. We accept cash, check, and paypal. We also offer shipping which will be an additional charge. Thank you so much!

My Favorite B.B. Cream…What is a B.B. Cream?

bb cream

What is a B.B. cream? Well, it is an amazing, multi-use product for your face! B.B. stands for blemish balm, or beauty balm and it is made to do a number of things. It can be used as sunscreen, a moisturizer, a light foundation, or a primer. You can use it in place of all of those things or use it for just one. I personally use mine as a light foundation in the summer when it is too hot to wear a heavy foundation and I just want a little bit of a tinted, flawless look.

The product is creamy and comes out just like lotion and it contains SPF 27. I put it on my fingertips and blend it onto my face and neck. This can be topped with a powder if you want or, I just leave mine and put my blush and bronzer on as I normally would. This is a great alternative to putting on a moisturizer, sunscreen, a primer, then your foundation, especially during the summer.

I love the Boscia brand B.B. cream because it doesn’t have to be matched up to my skin tone, it is a self-adjusting shade for all skin types, but sadly “one size fits all” doesn’t always fit all, so even though it is self adjusting, you should still test a little out to make sure it matches, even self-adjusting products can have specific undertones (pink, yellow, etc.) Sephora is great for testing out products because they will make you samples of anything they carry. There are so many different options of these creams to choose from, but this just happens to be my favorite!

Hair and Makeup are my Art!

jess

I made a status on my facebook the other day on how being able to do hair and makeup well, is an art. The reason I felt it necessary to make this post was because it is too often that I hear “oh she is not a good stylist” or “she’s not very good at makeup” I don’t even mean that I hear this about myself as an artist, but other stylists and makeup artists as well. Of course, not everyone will like everything I do so they will not come to me or maybe they won’t come back to me, I am not offended by this because that is what happens when you’re in this industry. People need to keep in mind that like anything else, you might just not like what that artist creates and that is okay. This was the status:

Being able to do hair and makeup is an art. This takes creativity and an updated sense of fashion. This takes knowing what will compliment a persons’ face, or the outfit they are wearing. Doing hair and makeup is an art, like sculpting or painting is an art. Not everyone does it well, and not everyone will like it. So instead of saying/thinking someone isn’t a “good” artist, try saying/thinking their art just isn’t your taste. We love what we do and God has blessed us with this talent that not everyone has, but we aren’t for everyone and that is okay. I love my art and I am so blessed it was given to me!

And that is all I have to say today about it! lol 🙂

L’OREAL Infallible Eyeshadow

loreal

I recently purchased this eyeshadow and fell in love with it! This color is amber rush, it is a pinky brownish color (if that makes sense) and the consistency is almost that of a cream to powder. It is a shimmer, an almost foil looking shimmer which is great for the inner corners of your eyes or the whole lid. The pigment is amazing and it stays in place all day. I have tried using it with a brush but it seems to go on better with my finger, so that is what I have been using to apply it. I will definitely be purchasing more colors. It cost about $7.50 and you can pick it up at a Walmart, Meijer, CVS, etc. This will be going onto my favorites for the month for sure!

Airbrush Makeup vs. Traditional Makeup

So…I have to say, this article that I am posting took the words right out of my mouth, to an extent anyway….because this woman actually does offer airbrushing along with traditional makeup and I do not (not yet anyway). I have so many people ask if I airbrush, unfortunately I do not at this time. I would love to look into it. There is so much hype about airbrush makeup that I think people don’t realize, just like anything else, you need to do your research and it all depends on the talent of the artist.

With that being said…I am posting the link to her article and to ameila-c.com’s website with her perfectly worded thoughts and opinions on airbrush makeup vs. traditional makeup. Please take a minute to check it out if you have questions about airbrush makeup vs. traditional.

The POREfessional Primer by Benefit

pore fessional

This primer is amazing! I bought a little 3 pack of different primers at Sephora last week and this was one of them. I had never used this before and I am always skeptical about primers because I have tried a lot and most don’t do anything different (that I can see). Benefit clearly knows what they are doing, especially with their primers! This is so smooth and velvety. Okay, maybe you aren’t even sure what a primer is or why you should be using one, so I should explain first.

A primer for your face should (in my opinion) essentially be like a primer when you’re painting something. It’s purpose is to conceal any imperfections to provide a smooth base to work off of. A primer can do a number of things, depending on what kind you buy. They make primers that will make you “glow”, fill in your pores, help with hydration, help with oily skin, correct redness, etc. You use a primer alone or with foundation over it and they help hold your makeup all day and can reduce shine. This particular one fills your pores and literally feels like satin or velvet…literally haha. I have worn it with foundation on top of it and I have worn it by itself and LOVE it both ways. If you have never used this, you don’t know what you’re missing.

Right now, at Sephora, up by the check out they have a 3 pack of the Pore fessional, “That Gal”, and Girl Meets Pearl for $18. “That Gal” is a brightening primer. Girl Meets Pearl is a primer that gives you a pretty “glow”, you apply it lightly over your foundation. This 3 pack comes in 7.5mL tubes and is a great, in-expensive way to try them out. I am attaching Sephora’s link so you can see what the packaging looks like. They are out of stock right now online. Go check it out! I am IN LOVE!!!!
